Privacy Policy

Last updated: June 2026. We believe privacy should be simple and clear. Here is exactly what Weave does — and does not — do with your information.

Summary

Weave is a local-first extension. We do not collect, transmit, or store any personal information on any server. Everything — your library, your progress, your XP, your preferences — lives entirely on your own device.

1. Information We Do Not Collect

Weave does not collect, store, or transmit any of the following:

  • Your name, email address, or any contact information
  • Your browsing history or visited URLs (beyond detecting supported sites for auto-track prompts, which are processed locally and never sent anywhere)
  • Your IP address or location data
  • Payment or financial information of any kind
  • Device identifiers or hardware fingerprints
  • Crash reports or diagnostic telemetry
  • Analytics on how you use the extension

2. Data Stored on Your Device

Weave stores the following data locally on your computer using Chrome's built-in storage APIs (chrome.storage.local) and IndexedDB (via the Dexie library):

  • Your media library — titles, media types, progress (episode/chapter), status, cover art, notes, and related metadata you enter manually or via auto-detect
  • XP and level data — your accumulated experience points and level history
  • Survey responses — milestone ratings you submit within the extension
  • Session data — if you create an account or log in as guest, your session token is stored locally
  • Onboarding preferences — viewer profile and genre selections from the first-run setup wizard

This data never leaves your device unless you explicitly use a sync feature to export it. It is not accessible to us or any third party.

3. External API Requests

The only outbound network requests Weave makes are to fetch cover images and metadata for titles you look up. These requests are made to the following public databases:

  • AniList (anilist.co) — anime and manga cover images and metadata
  • Jikan / MyAnimeList (api.jikan.moe) — anime and manga data
  • MangaDex (api.mangadex.org) — manga cover images
  • AniDB (api.anidb.net) — anime metadata (requires optional AniDB client registration)

These requests contain only the title you searched — no user identifiers, account tokens, or personal information are included. Please refer to each platform's own privacy policy for information about how they handle API requests.

4. Permissions Requested

Weave requests the following Chrome extension permissions. Each is required for a specific feature:

  • storage — saves your library and settings locally
  • activeTab — reads the current page URL to check if auto-detect applies
  • host permissions (supported sites) — injects the auto-detect prompt on whitelisted streaming and reading sites only

Weave does not request permissions to read your passwords, access your camera or microphone, manage downloads, or access any other Chrome APIs beyond those listed.

5. Children's Privacy

Weave is not directed at children under the age of 13. We do not knowingly collect information from children. Because Weave collects no personal data from any user, this is not a practical concern — but we state it here for completeness.

6. Third-Party Services

This website (weave-network.io) does not use advertising networks, tracking pixels, third-party analytics scripts, or social media embeds. No third party can track your visit to this site through our code.

7. Changes to This Policy

If we make material changes to this policy — for example, if a future version of Weave adds optional cloud sync — we will update this page and revise the "Last updated" date at the top. We encourage you to review this page periodically.

8. Contact

If you have questions about this privacy policy or how Weave handles data, please reach out through the Chrome Web Store listing page or via the contact information provided in the extension's settings panel.

This policy applies to the Weave browser extension and this website. It does not apply to third-party platforms linked from within the extension (Crunchyroll, MangaDex, etc.), which have their own privacy policies.
